Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo and Ghana's President, John Mahama were said to have thrown words and open insults at each otherat the Annual Global African Investment Forum held in Westminster, Central London. These heated exchange almost led to an outburst and confusion at the forum.
The President of Ghana, John Mahama and his government were publicly accused by Obasanjo of blackmail and accepting bribes from Nigerian businessmen based in Ghana, buying various properties in South Africa and Nigeria and supporting last year's campaign of Goodluck Jonathan's with 12 million dollars, as reported by Daily Onus,
According to the report, the Ghanaian President, John Mahama, who was clearly angered, lost his cool and while pointing his finger, he called General Obasanjo an "idiot" and a "stupid buffoon". It took the intervention of the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni and other ministers that were present to cool the nerves of President John Mahama. Mahama was later taken to a nearby room.
The Annual Global African Investment Forum holds from 1st to 3rd of December and those in attendance include African Heads of States, Ministers, private equity firms and investors. The aim of the forum is to discuss opportunities for investment and development in African Economies.
Is it now truly 'fun' to General Obasanjo whenever he is being insulted, recalling that on October 14, 2015, he said it was a pleasure to him when he was being insulted as a sitting president by his critics or political opponents.
His words, “If you visit the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, you will find thousands of archived newspaper comics and columns meant to spite and insult my person even as a sitting President. No individual or group of people was ever queried or jailed or repressed for expressing this freedom. Rather, I encouraged them because I derived fun and pleasure from the humour as I know who I am and nobody needs to tell me who and what I am not “.
